Report from the field...

Wow! Two more great field trips and two more places commending our students on their behavior. Great job! It really says something when more than one person at a place goes out of their way to express their delight with the behavior of the students and their younger siblings.

At the end of March we enjoyed a trip to Hazel Hill. The people there were great, and what can I say? There was chocolate. The kids enjoyed learning a little about where chocolate comes from and how it is turned into such wonderful treats. They were able to try their hands at dipping their own pretzels to eat. The most adventurous tidbit that was sampled? I guess it would have to be the chocolate covered bacon!

Our latest field trip was to the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City. Students watched a video then were taken through the Money Museum. It was interesting to see the variety of coins that were used during the different presidencies. There were quite a few comments about the half penny and 3 cent coins. Upon departure each student was given a bag of money! Too bad they had to shred it first!

Thank you everyone for making these such nice trips!

April Field Trip

The April field trip is right around the corner, April 4. Check your emails for information. Even if you have already signed up or verbally told Shelby you plan to attend, she needs to confirm your names and send a list to the Federal Reserve. They will only allow those listed to enter and adults will need to show a valid photo id. Thank you.

Report from the field...

The fieldtrip to Moon Marbles was a lot of fun, or in the words of at least one of the students, it was "utterly awesome"! The trip began with a live demonstration of a marble being made and decorated. We watched glass go from sticks to a round glowing blob to a white marble. This was then decorated with a stripe, then dots, and then twisted into a swirl pattern. Students learned that unlike metal, the glass rods do not transfer heat so only the tip stayed hot. They saw how the hot glass could be stretched into a string and become flexible. (A brief lesson on fiberglass!) Following the demonstration students were taken to play several games of marbles. Due to the awesome behavior of the field trippers they were allowed to play an additional game. The trip ended with the students choosing marbles to fill a take home tube.
Field trip coordinator, Shelby, and I were the last 2 heading out the door  when the best thing happened. One of the Moon Marble people caught up to us because she wanted us to know that our group was the best behaved group of kids they have had.

AWESOME job,  REACH students!
