Spring Enrollment

Thank you to everyone who has emailed your intent to enroll. If you have not done that yet, or have any questions please email us.

We had placed the cut off at December 20 to try to get everything together before Christmas; but we do understand the busyness of this time of year. We would appreciate having enrollment forms soon, as school resumes the first full week of January. We would like to get rosters out to the teachers as soon as possible so they can better prepare. Thank you.

Have a wonderful Christmas!!!

Lunch this Week

We have been enjoying the opportunity to order pizza every other week. This coming Tuesday, September 16 would have been a slated pizza day; however our orders have been getting too large to order the morning of the meal.

The restaurant has asked that we call our order in the day before. So, pack your lunch for this Tuesday and then write down your order at the admin table for what you would like to have the following week, September 23. You do not need to pay until the morning we actually go to pick up the pizza.

We will continue having the pizza order sheet at the admin table a week ahead of the week we eat it.

Field Trip Information:

Below is a message from our Field Trip Coordinator, Shelby. Enrolled families will receive an email with her contact information if you have any questions. You may register by signing up at the administration table this Tuesday (or email her). Please note that the registration deadline is this Tuesday so she will need to know your decision by then.

From Shelby:

I am working on field trips for the year.  For those of you that are new to REACH, I will be scheduling some out of town, some in town, some that cost and some that are free.  I will try to post as much info as possible but feel free to email me or call or text with questions.
I will be trying to do whole group activities but some trips are geared towards specific ages and some limit our number that can come.  Feel free to do as many or as few field trips as you like.

The first trip I have scheduled is September 11 in Olathe.  I need to know by Tuesday September 2 who is coming.  I will have a sign up sheet on the table Tuesday or feel free to email me.  We would need to be there by 10 and since this is geared towards 4-15 year olds we could all explore at our families own pace and meet back up for lunch at 12 for a picnic lunch.  Here is the information from the website.  I will send an email with address and more info to those that are going.  The website is mahaffie.org if you would like to look at it.

Room Arrangement

Dear Students and Parents,

As we get settled into this semester, we would like to make a couple of adjustments to room assignments for the Study Hall and Parent Lounge. This will allow another room to be opened up for Kinder Group rotations. As always the rooms will be signed so you can just look for them, but here is the new set up:

The Parents Lounge will now be situated in the kitchen. (Closer to the coffee!)
The Study Hall will move over one room to the former Parent Lounge, and the former Study Hall will become another KinderGroup room.

Lunch
Currently we are set up to take pizza orders every other week. This coming Tuesday, the 26th, is a pack your lunch day. There is some interest in offering pizza every week. We could do that if we had another driver to pick up the orders. Let us know if this is something you would want to do.

Monday, August 18, 2014

And School Is Underway!

What fun it was to see old friends and new ones last week. We hope to have a chance to visit with more of you tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a CiCi's pizza week. You can bring $5 for a pizza instead of packing your lunch. If you would like to do this, please record your pizza orders on the sheet at the administration table by 10:00am and leave the money with the attendant there.

Back To School Reminders

School begins this Tuesday, August 12!

All enrolled families should have received an orientation letter by email. If you did not receive one please let us know.

Remember to bring a simple lunch if you can stay, and check your basic supply list for your classes and bring what you need. Email if you have any questions.

It would be helpful if on the first day everyone would arrive a few minutes before your first scheduled class begins so that you can get checked in and find your place, allowing class to begin on time.

There will be Areas of Parent Partnership sign up sheets and other information on the administration table you will want to look at when you come in.

Parents, in case your morning was a little rushed, there will be a selection of breakfast breads in the Parent Lounge for you. Please enjoy!

See you Tuesday!

Registration Counting Down

Last week we had a teacher meeting in preparation for the upcoming school year. I have to say it really blessed my heart to see the passion and excitement of the teaching staff. We are thankful for the three added teachers this year and to expand the roles of some of the others. They are all really looking forward to helping and enhancing your school year.

We are happy to say Chris Driggers is taking on the role of Nursery Coordinator for this upcoming year. Returning students will see a few changes as we continue trying to enhance our organization. One new thing will be lanyards identifying teachers, nursery assistants etc.

Thank you again for sending the emails of intent to enroll so we can be looking for your paperwork and to give information to those teachers who are biting at the bit to prepare!

Registration deadline is July 12,  space allowing. This will allow teachers time to plan for their classes. You only need to have half of the tuition sent in with the registration papers, however if you pay in full at that time, the registration fee is only $10. Please see complete details under the other tabs. If you need to be put on a payment plan, please contact the administrators.

Report from the field...

Wow! Two more great field trips and two more places commending our students on their behavior. Great job! It really says something when more than one person at a place goes out of their way to express their delight with the behavior of the students and their younger siblings.

At the end of March we enjoyed a trip to Hazel Hill. The people there were great, and what can I say? There was chocolate. The kids enjoyed learning a little about where chocolate comes from and how it is turned into such wonderful treats. They were able to try their hands at dipping their own pretzels to eat. The most adventurous tidbit that was sampled? I guess it would have to be the chocolate covered bacon!

Our latest field trip was to the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City. Students watched a video then were taken through the Money Museum. It was interesting to see the variety of coins that were used during the different presidencies. There were quite a few comments about the half penny and 3 cent coins. Upon departure each student was given a bag of money! Too bad they had to shred it first!

Thank you everyone for making these such nice trips!

The April field trip is right around the corner, April 4. Check your emails for information. Even if you have already signed up or verbally told Shelby you plan to attend, she needs to confirm your names and send a list to the Federal Reserve. They will only allow those listed to enter and adults will need to show a valid photo id. Thank you.

Report from the field...

The fieldtrip to Moon Marbles was a lot of fun, or in the words of at least one of the students, it was "utterly awesome"! The trip began with a live demonstration of a marble being made and decorated. We watched glass go from sticks to a round glowing blob to a white marble. This was then decorated with a stripe, then dots, and then twisted into a swirl pattern. Students learned that unlike metal, the glass rods do not transfer heat so only the tip stayed hot. They saw how the hot glass could be stretched into a string and become flexible. (A brief lesson on fiberglass!) Following the demonstration students were taken to play several games of marbles. Due to the awesome behavior of the field trippers they were allowed to play an additional game. The trip ended with the students choosing marbles to fill a take home tube.
Field trip coordinator, Shelby, and I were the last 2 heading out the door  when the best thing happened. One of the Moon Marble people caught up to us because she wanted us to know that our group was the best behaved group of kids they have had.

AWESOME job,  REACH students!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Thank you to a guest speaker...

I would like to say thank you to our guest presenter in Science class a week ago. We liked all of the cool things you brought in for us to study. Okay, some people appreciated the rubberized sheep stomach more than others...but it was all interesting and appreciated! Thank you, Trisha!

Lunch this Tuesday

We will be ordering pizza for lunch this Tuesday, February 4 and next Tuesday, February 11. Get your order in at the administration table by 10:00am on those days if you would like a pizza for your family. Cost is $5 plus tax for a whole pizza.

(Did anyone notice I went from rubberized sheep stomach to lunch?)

Valentines Day

February 11, REACH will celebrate Valentines Day during lunch break. Students can decorate a box or bag for friends to distribute valentines into. Leave your decorated container on the table in the entry. We will open them after kids have eaten lunch.

Afternoon only students: we would love for you to join us. If possible please come a little early and join the fun.

FYI, this will be a pizza lunch day so you have the option of packing the valentines but not also the lunch!

Field Trips, Olympics, and Birthdays

Areas of Parent Partnership are just exploding! What a super group of people.

Field Trips

Thank you, Shelby, for organizing the field trip many of us enjoyed today at the Kansas Museum of History for KS History Day. We are happy to announce that Shelby has a passion for field trips and has volunteered to be the field trip coordinator for REACH. If you have any suggestions or thoughts for her you can pass them on to her in person or go through the REACH email address.

Olympics

Campfire time (right after lunch break, before afternoon classes resume) has taken on a fun focus of the 2014 Olympics. Thanks to Chrissy,  who has organized an activity for students to participate in tracking a country's progress in the games, and learning a few facts about the country they choose. Some students picked out countries this last week. If you would like to join in the fun, see the poster at the administration table for which countries are still available.

Instructions for the 2014 Olympics Activity:
1. Place your name on the sign up sheet by the country you want to follow.
2. Bring in a picture of your country's flag. This can be hand made or printed off from the computer.
3. Write down 3-4 facts about your country on a small sheet of paper (no bigger than a 6x6 inch paper). The flags and facts will be displayed on a poster board for everyone to see.
4. Keep track of the number of medals your country wins each day of the Olympic games and bring your medal totals to REACH each week. We will be keeping a sticker chart of the number of medals each country wins.

Birthdays

Student Birthday recognition. While we would like to find some reason to party and eat treats everyday, we decided once a every 4 weeks or so would work! Krystal has volunteered to coordinate a celebration that will recognize all the students who have a birthday in a particular month. At the end of lunch on the first Tuesday of each month, we will take a moment to sing to all the birthday students of the month; any parents of those students who wish to participate can help with a special treat. As this idea was just conceived, we will combine January and February on this Tuesday, February 4 and Krystal will bring cookies. A school email will be sent out if you would like to contact her to help.

Second Semester is Underway!

It has been wonderful to see everyone again as well as meet some new faces! Even though this semester started with cold weather, we were warmed up with laughter. (I still chuckle remembering the exclamations from some of the younger students in sewing class when they got their machines going.)

I want to say thank you to our special guest in geography class for sharing your experiences of living in Germany.  I don't know if I will eat popcorn in the future with powdered sugar, but it was interesting to try it that way!

Field Trip

An email was sent out to all student families regarding an upcoming opportunity for a field trip. If you did not receive an email, please let us know.

Lunch

We will be ordering pizza for lunch. If you did not write your order down last week, you may add it to the order sheet at the administration table if you arrive by 10:00am. Cost is $5 plus tax for a whole pizza.

Sunday, January 5, 2014

Brrrrr!

We wanted to remind everyone that REACH follows USD 437 for school closings due to inclement weather conditions. So while we are hoping to see everyone in a couple of days, watch the school closings list and if district 437 is on it for Tuesday, January 7, then REACH will also be closed.

Stay warm!

Friday, January 3, 2014

Happy New Year everyone!

We are looking forward to seeing some old and new faces as this school year continues with the Spring Semester this Tuesday, January 7.

If you have any paperwork or payments to finish, please arrive a few minutes before the start of your first class and take care of that at the registration table. Thank you!

Food allergy alert!

We do have some attending who have a food allergy, the most serious to peanuts. We would like to ask that any food or snack brought that could possibly be shared would not contain any peanuts. Thank you!!
